Nazim Baydamirli (former surname Mammadov) was born on 4 May 1963 in Gadabay district.<\/p>\n
Nazim Baydamirli completed vocational education at the Baku Planning and Accounting Technical College. After the military service, he continued his education at the Voronezh State Agrarian University in Russia. In 1989, he graduated from the Faculty of Earth Structure of this university with honours. From the same year, he worked as a junior fellow and lecturer at the Voronezh Agricultural Institute. Later, Nazim Baydamirli did his PHD in economics at the same university.<\/p>\n
At the beginning of the 1990s, he started a business in Russia. In 1993-1999, he led the \u201cCapital X\u201d LLC in Lipetsk. Since 1996, he has headed \u201cImperial LTD\u201d CSC.<\/p>\n
In 2000, he served as the president of \u201cGlobal Caspian LTD\u201d in Baku, and in 2003-2005, he worked as the general director of \u201cBinapmetal\u201d LLC.<\/p>\n
Nazim Baydamirli, a member of the ruling New Azerbaijan Party (YAP), served as an MP of the third convocation of the Milli Majlis (Parliament) from 2005 to 2010, representing the Gadabey-Tovuz electoral district No. 104 and serving on the Standing Committee on Economic Policy. He attempted to run again in 2010 from the same constituency but faced controversy; he was one of the party members who did not withdraw his individual candidacy despite a request from YAP.<\/p>\n
Shortly after he refused to withdraw, his company, \u201cLogman Clinic\u201d LLC, was subjected to inspections by the Department of Preliminary Investigation of Tax Crimes, its documents were seized, and the enterprise was subsequently accused of tax evasion.<\/p>\n
At that time, Nazim Baydamirli considered what happened as pressure on himself.<\/p>\n
In his press speeches and social media posts, from time to time, the former MP spoke about the monopoly in the country and the arbitrariness of officials. In 2012-2013, there was a scandal between him and the head of \u201cBaku Steel Company\u201d LLC at that time, Rasim Mammadov, who is currently in prison. The former MP claimed that \u201cBaku Steel Company\u201d sent its men to small metal workshops, threatened them, closed those enterprises, and destroyed the jobs of those who did not agree with it.<\/p>\n

Nazim Baydamirli has been in prison since 4 July 2023<\/a>. He was charged with the Azerbaijan SSR Criminal Code Articles 146 (1961 edition) and 182.2.4 (extortion \u2013 when committed to obtain a large amount of property) and sentenced<\/a> to eight years in prison.<\/p>\n The charge filed under the previous criminal legislation concerns the period when Nazim Baydamirli was engaged in business in the city of Lipetsk in the 1990s. In the materials of the criminal case, it is claimed that in 1996, Nazim Baydamirli allegedly threatened Azerbaijani Mursal Ibrahimov, who was involved in the alcohol business in Russia, to kidnap and kill himself and his family members through members of the criminal world. He asked him to give up the 40,000 US dollars he had invested in the business, as well as 70,000 US dollars.
